How to Screenshot on Windows

Hey there! Ever tried grabbing a snapshot of your screen and felt like you needed a PhD in computer science? Well, don’t sweat it. I’m gonna show you how to snag screenshots on Windows like a pro.

Using the PrtScn Key

  • Find the PrtScn key on your keyboard. It might be labeled as PrtScn, PrntScrn, or something similar.
  • Press the PrtScn key to copy the entire screen to your clipboard.
  • Open an app like Paint and press Ctrl + V to paste the screenshot.
  • Save your image!

Using Windows + PrtScn

  • Press the Windows key and PrtScn together.
  • Your screen will dim briefly, indicating that the screenshot has been taken.
  • Find your screenshot in the Pictures folder under Screenshots.

Using the Snipping Tool

  • Open the Snipping Tool from the Start menu.
  • Click on Mode and choose the type of snip you want.
  • Click New and select the area you want to capture.
  • Save the snip by clicking the Save icon.

Using Snip & Sketch

  • Press Windows + Shift + S to open Snip & Sketch.
  • Drag to select the area you want to capture.
  • Find your snip in the notification area or in the Snip & Sketch app.
  • Save or edit the snip as needed.

Pro Tip

Want to capture just a single window? Hit Alt + PrtScn and paste it wherever you like. It’s perfect for keeping those messy desktops out of sight!

Warning

Don’t forget to save your screenshots after editing them. It’s a bummer when you make the perfect crop and accidentally close the app, losing all your work!

A common mistake folks make is thinking the PrtScn key automatically saves the screenshot. Remember, it just copies to the clipboard. You’ve gotta paste it somewhere before saving!

Note: I just tested this on my device and it works perfectly.
